SBI Group is launching JPYSC, a yen-pegged stablecoin, this week

Japanese financial conglomerate SBI Group is set to issue JPYSC, a stablecoin pegged to the Japanese yen, this week, according to a Nikkei report. The token's issuance will be handled by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank, with trading support from SBI VC Trade, the group's regulated cryptocurrency exchange.

JPYSC was co-developed with Startale Group, a Singapore-based fintech firm. The structure matters: routing issuance through a licensed trust bank rather than a standalone startup signals a regulated, bank-backed approach to fiat-pegged tokens in one of Asia's largest economies.

Why a bank-issued yen stablecoin is different

Most stablecoin liquidity today is dollar-denominated (USDC, USDT). A yen stablecoin issued under a trust-bank framework adds a credible non-dollar settlement asset to the on-chain market, giving traders a native way to hold and move JPY exposure without touching the traditional banking rail.

Trust-bank issuance also implies clear redemption and reserve handling under Japanese rules. For traders, regulatory clarity reduces depeg and counterparty risk versus offshore, lightly-regulated alternatives.

What it means for traders

A liquid JPYSC opens cleaner yen-pairs and yen-based hedging on-chain. Traders running carry strategies or wanting to park value in yen during dollar weakness now have an on-chain instrument, instead of converting through fiat off-ramps.

Watch where JPYSC lists and how deep its liquidity gets. Thin order books mean wider spreads and slippage early on; deep liquidity would make it a real settlement and pairing asset. As regulated venues add yen stablecoin markets, expect more JPY-denominated spot and derivatives activity over time.

Bigger picture: bank-grade stablecoins from established players like SBI accelerate institutional comfort with on-chain settlement — bullish for the broader stablecoin and tokenized-money narrative that underpins much of crypto's liquidity.
